Newt Scamander

Karakter fiksi yang selalu aku pengen ajak ngobrol dan hang out with. Keren banget karakternya. Sosok yang cool, tau sama dunianya sendiri, suka menyendiri karena dia seakan tau bahwa dunia akan sulit memahaminya, sincerely baik hati. Supposed to be setia--pokoknya rugi banget yang nyakitin karakter kayak dia tuh. Menurutku nggak banyak film yang penokohannya kayak Newt. Karakter yang outsider dan kurang menonjol kayak gitu kan sering dibikin figuran aja. Figuran yang aneh nggak sebriliant tokoh utama, tapi balik lagi ke statement ku yang awal, still I wanna have a date with him.

He is a proud hufflepuffs. The house in Harry Potter universe that characterized by friendship, hardwork, and humility. People said that hufflepuffs are more to be down to earth and less competitive than the other three wizarding houses. Newt was not “the chosen one” type of guy like Harry. It’s more makes sense that in this real world no one that should be prioritize upon any other human being. Loud or shy, tall or short, black or white, girl or boy, no human that less than the other. We are equal. After all semesta tidak hanya berpusat pada satu orang saja kan.

Newt is a humble caregiver who’s content with his personal goal, which is writing textbooks about magic-beast-creatures. Yes, he is socially awkward and don’t like to be touched—setelah dipikir-pikir mirp kayak kita yang hidup dijaman sekarang ini—like the rest of many of us.

To be honest, he reminds me about the other part of me who have feels intense empathy for others but has trouble connecting to people and making friends. Yep, sometimes I have that kind of feeling too.

Newt in fantastic beast the one that I wanna have date with is interesting yet mysterious guy. I appreciate that the film does not frame Newt’s social anxiety as an obstacle he must ultimately overcome in order to be a true hero. That the plot doesn’t require to make Newt toughen up or push him to be more outgoing person. Newt doesn’t fundamentally have to change his way of being.

In the film, you may notice about the adventure of in magic world, but if you look more deeper you’ll see this is actually the story of interpersonal growth of Newt. The one that have social anxiety at the beginning of this film and then at the end he learn to make friends and trust them. I think, establishing these deep human connections is the core of his character development. We have our own character that to be enhance. And Newt show me if you’re have vulnerability, emphaty masculinity, even not as loud as the other person…. that’s okay.
